Glucuronolacton

Occurence and Significance

also called glucurolactone, glucuronacid-g-lactone

Glucuronolactone can be found in flora as well as in the animal world.
It is a product from the carbohydrate-metabolism.

For animals it plays an important role as essential element of nearly all fibrous-and connective tissues.

Furthermore this substance has vital importance regarding the deoxification of internal and external substances within the human body. A Japanese team of researchers has found the protective effect of glucuronolactone on liver cells of fatty liver. Two different kinds of liver-protecting medication are available in Japan:

GLUCORONE ® (Reed & Carnick)
GURONSAN ® (Chugai, Japan)

Application

Glucuronolactone is applied for patients with liver disorders (also in case of alcohol abuse), and has a generally detoxifying effect (on both endogenous and exogenous substances). Furthermore, it is administered for patients suffering from sciatica.
